Digital Design

This section of my portfolio is dedicated to  design oriented projects that I have completed in my undergraduate career. The projects included represent my love of finding creative, visually interesting, and aesthetic ways to organize information. Most of the projects in this section were created using Canva, Genially, or Adobe Fresco.

Circulation Map

Oct. 2023

This project  set out to trace cultural phenomena or event from its origins through it's lasting socio-cultural impact. My circulation map explores the rich history of voguing and the how the Harlem Ballroom scene shaped the foundation of queer culture and is still prevalent in todays mainstream media.  This interactive mind map is a testament to my personal  aesthetic, academic interests, and love of organization.

Feature Article

Nov. 2023

This project was  created as an assignment for my Writing, Editing, & Printing Class. In the article I explore the complex history of reggaeton as it relates to cultural beliefs and practices of masculinity. I love this topic because it allows me to talk about my interests in Art & Latino culture/heritage through the feminist perspective. This project was an exercise in exploring my personal voice and writing style as  I break away from the academic, research paper style that I had grown accustomed to and discovering who I am when I have the freedom to write about what I am passionate about.

This is one of my favorite projects in my portfolio because  it feels truly representative of who I am as a writer and artist- from the voice of the text, the topic, the aesthetic of the layout- this article is Nat  on paper.

Leadership Theory Analysis

Nov. 2023

This 'micro-site' was a project for my Adv. Stage Management course, in which we were assigned a book on leadership theory and then had to teach the class what we learned.  My site is dedicated to an in-depth exploration of Adrienne Maree Brown's Emergent Strategy: Shaping Change, Changing Worlds.  I chose to include this project as a part of my portfolio because I think it is representative of my design aesthetic and capability to organize information, but I also think that the topic of the porject is important because my work in leadership & management is essential to my character both occupationally and academically. Through analyzing Brown's leadership theory I learned  a lot about who I am as a leader and how I can make changes to make practice to build an equitable future and work toward radical social justice.

Digital Illustration for Theatrical Design

Oct. 2023

This  design was a project for a Play Analysis course. The concept behind this scenic rendering is a reimagination of  the setting of the play DULCITIUS by Hrosvitha of Gandersheim. The design takes  inspiration from the themes of religious conquest prevalent in the play and represents it through   a Spanish Colonial cathedral rather than the traditional Medieval church it is originally set in. The illustration  is inspired by a Catholic church in Guatemala called La Iglesia de  San Andres Xecul. This was one of my first attempts at digital art and  was composed on Adobe Fresco.

I included this design in my portfolio because I am highly interested in the deconstruction of colonial influences in Latin culture and art and this illustration represents how my academic interests intersect with my artistic style  .

Marketing Direction

Dec. 2023

I acted as 'Marketing Director' for a theatrical production that I was working on through the Florida State University School of Theatre. I was responsible for designing and composing all of the graphics and information that was circulated to promote our show. I included this in my portfolio because it shows a completed publicity package (social media posts, PR statement, show program)  highlighting the ability to take a design and reformat it to suit different platforms. This project was good practice in finding a writing style that was true to my voice but fit the needs of a press release. The graphics used  were all composed on Canva and the illustrations I made using Adobe Fresco.

Creative Exploration of
Leadership Theory

Dec. 2023

This project was for a course I took on Ethical Leadership where we were tasked to creatively explore our definition of an ethical leader. I designed a mock LinkedIn profile  of the 'Ethical Leader' using Genially to demonstrate my understanding  of the course material. The goal of this  page  was to make something that is visually interesting and interactive  to keep the viewer engaged by modeling the features after the functionality that a website has (clicking the 'follow' button takes you  a new page).
I choose to include this in my portfolio because this project exemplifies my aptitude for finding creative ways to organize information in a manner that also suits my aesthetic.

Digital Illustration

Nov. 2023

This illustration, titled Nothing About Us, Without Us,   was part of  a project for my Rhetoric class.  I spent the semester studying the rhetoric of intersectional identities  with a focus on Disability and Queerness. This illustration features the portraits of advocates from the 1700-1900s that were instrumental in making changes to the socio-cultural reception of people who have been othered.  The goal of this piece was to highlight people in history who have been overlooked through exploring their accomplishments and impacts on the human rights movement.
This project was and composed using Adobe Fresco. I included this as part of my portfolio because it shows a growing proficiency with Adobe software and it is  a representation of the fields of study and topics that I am interested in pursuing in my academic work.
